Explore a Traditional Wooden Ukrainian Church in Silver Spring
Join theology and architecture experts in exploring a unique wooden Church in the Silver Spring MD. Fr. Mark Morozowich, Chair of the Bishop Losten Center for Ukrainian Church studies is hosting this tour with Dean Mark Ferguson of the School of Architecture. After a brief background of wooden Churches in Ukraine by Martha Jarosevich Holder, Fr. Mark will present a concise overview of the spirituality and liturgy of the church. Our featured presenter Laryssa Kurylas, licensed to practice architecture in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, guided the completion of this church. She will explain the many details and complications of building a traditional wooden church in modern America. Then, the group will have an opportunity to explore the architectural elements in depth and/or the possibility for deepening the understanding of the Ukrainian spiritual and liturgical tradition.
