The Catholic University of America hosted a thought-provoking discussion titled A New World Order? The Future of the Nuremberg Principles: Workshop on International Criminal Law and Global Justice as Wars Rage Around the World.

he week’s usual rhythm of the Catholic University of America full of lectures and seminars was interrupted by evening that began as a screening of the Film Children in the Fire, by Director Evgeny Afineevsky but transformed into something more intimate following the film: a room full of people listening- carefully, quietly – to children who have lived through Russia’s war against Ukraine, and who refuse to let that war define their lives.

The Center of Ukrainian Church Studies at The Catholic University of America hosted a small campus gathering to provide an opportunity for the Catholic University’s staff, faculty, and students to meet and welcome the newest cohort of the St. Gabriel’s Institute. On September 29, Archbishop Borys Gudziak, the Ukrainian Catholic Metropolitan of Philadelphia, shared his reflections from his recent visitation of Ukraine. He focused on the Russian war against Ukraine, its moral and material consequences and human cost, and the possibility or impossibility of a just peace and of mending “the wounds of the war.”

His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk led a Prayer Service for Hope and Perseverance, Peace, and Justice in Ukraine with Ukrainian Catholic Bishops of the United States: Metropolitan-Archbishop Borys Gudziak, Bishop Venedykt Aleksiychuk, Bishop Paul Chomnycky and Bishop Bohdan Danylo.
